Guatemala>Denver

Had more amazing french toast, but it hardly makes up for having to go home. Guatemala is too beautiful and the people are so nice it’s impossible to not fall in love. Especially when we were able to get a great picture of smoke coming out of the volcano that erupted a couple days ago. We had an hour layover in Houston, but having to do all the customs stuff made us have to run to the gate. Luckily, the plane was delayed (the one thing United is reliable for), otherwise we might not have made it. It was the craziest thing, a mission trip group from Family of Christ (Cassie’s church) was coming back from Costa Rica and were on the same flight, and apparently had to run too. I sat next to the pastor, Jeremy, and we talked most of the flight.

After we got all our luggage, we went to Red Robin with Aunt Robin (since we hadn’t had a real meal since 8:30) and talked all about our trip. I was pooped when we got home at 11:30.

Our Last Day :(

We did more shopping today and I got cute sandals and bracelets for sponsors. Before dinner we had a while, so we played cards. Freddie’s kid came by and he is so cute! He’s named Antony after Tony! We went to Pollo Compero again for dinner. There were church bells going off all night, but it guess it didn’t matter too much because I wouldn’t have slept very well anyway with dread of going home. (No offense)

Paquip>Pana

We drove from Paquip to a lake and took a 30 minute bus ride into Pana. We were going to go to an orphanage but that got canceled, so all we did was shop. We also took a break for lunch, which was really good pizza. I got an awesome sweatshirt thing that is an amazing color, pants, a backpack, and a magnet. Poor Brooke has a swollen foot and cold, but at least it didn’t happen until the end of the trip.

Monument>Antigua

Fun times getting up at 2:30 in the morning to go to church. I went to bed at like 10 and was prepared to get 4 hours of sleep, and then I look at the clock and it’s midnight, so… The plane ride from Houston to Guatemala City slowly and steadily got delayed, all adding up to leaving an hour late. We had an hour bus ride from Guatemala City to Antigua, but it didn’t feel that long. Probably because we were all eating and talking and I wasn’t really tired because I had just slept really well on the plane. We hit the ground running doing an amazing race game all over the city, it was fun, but my feet are definitely tired. We got awesome journals, some really great flaky Guatemalan food with creme inside, and then ate a delicious chicken dinner at Pollo Comparo. I tested out some Spanish on locals, it wasn’t that good, but it wasn’t that bad either. Everybody is so tired and slap happy, it’s hilarious!

Universal Studios

Since we had a whole day in LA before the next flight out to Australia, we got to go to Universal Studios! We got to go on a back stage tour and it was really cool! We saw inside looks at movies like King Kong and Jaws. For King Kong there was an all around 3-D  show where the screen was all around us. We were supposed to go to Australia that night, but when we got to the airport, that fight was canceled too! It took a really long time for the leaders to arrange another flight out, because they had to split us up and use different airlines (Quantas and Virgin Airlines). So we had to wait at the airport until about 4am before we got to go to the hotel. United paid for pizza for dinner, but it was 10pm before we ate it. Other people who were stuck at the airport were looking longingly at our pizza! Most of us fell asleep on the hard, cold airport floor while we were waiting.  As we were getting on the bus to go to the hotel, they found our luggage!

Monument>LA

We were so excited to finally go to Australia after all of our preparation but we got stuck in the Denver International Airport (DIA) for about 3 hours because of United’s plane’s wing problems! It was horrible and they didn’t even tell us to get off until like 2 hours of actually being on the plane; it would have been better to at least be in the gate so we could walk around. At least I got to watch some of Surfs Up. We finally started moving right after some of us bought our dinner. The mood got better on the plane because we watched a comedy channel on the screen and it was so cute because the comedians were trying to find the cutest pets! The winner was a little Slow Moving Norris named Sonya who loves being tickled!

But because of the delay at DIA we missed our connection in LAX and got stuck in LA for a day. Luckily, we didn’t have to sleep at the airport because our leaders got us a hotel near there. Unluckily, United lost our luggage, all of it, everybody’s! But I had packed my backpack with toiletries and a change of clothes, so I was prepared!
