Snorkeling & Mauna Kea

We went to a beach which had really good snorkeling. I saw 2 sea turtles there too, and the second one almost bumped into me! We then went up to the tallest mountain, Mauna Kea. It was really cool to see the clouds below us. There was also super good stargazing, including a constellation of  across that can only be seen from 2 places in the United States: Hawaii and Florida.

Kaloko Honokohau

Saw 4 sea turtles on a beach today! And we went to our real condo which is pretty fancy. We also watched a little hula demonstration which was pretty cool.

Denver>Hawaii

We landed really late Colorado time, but Hawaii is 4 hours earlier so that feels pretty weird; I’ve had 4 big meals today. Also, I can’t get the O’Reilly’s theme song out of my head, so I’ve replaced O’Reilly with Hawaii.

Guatemala>Denver

Had more amazing french toast, but it hardly makes up for having to go home. Guatemala is too beautiful and the people are so nice it’s impossible to not fall in love. Especially when we were able to get a great picture of smoke coming out of the volcano that erupted a couple days ago. We had an hour layover in Houston, but having to do all the customs stuff made us have to run to the gate. Luckily, the plane was delayed (the one thing United is reliable for), otherwise we might not have made it. It was the craziest thing, a mission trip group from Family of Christ (Cassie’s church) was coming back from Costa Rica and were on the same flight, and apparently had to run too. I sat next to the pastor, Jeremy, and we talked most of the flight.

After we got all our luggage, we went to Red Robin with Aunt Robin (since we hadn’t had a real meal since 8:30) and talked all about our trip. I was pooped when we got home at 11:30.

Our Last Day :(

We did more shopping today and I got cute sandals and bracelets for sponsors. Before dinner we had a while, so we played cards. Freddie’s kid came by and he is so cute! He’s named Antony after Tony! We went to Pollo Compero again for dinner. There were church bells going off all night, but it guess it didn’t matter too much because I wouldn’t have slept very well anyway with dread of going home. (No offense)

Paquip>Pana

We drove from Paquip to a lake and took a 30 minute bus ride into Pana. We were going to go to an orphanage but that got canceled, so all we did was shop. We also took a break for lunch, which was really good pizza. I got an awesome sweatshirt thing that is an amazing color, pants, a backpack, and a magnet. Poor Brooke has a swollen foot and cold, but at least it didn’t happen until the end of the trip.

Last VBS

Last day here with the kids. 🙁 We did a new skit at all 3 schools and played with them. It started raining early today, so we hung out in the church. Then we went to the micro loan ladies and I got a really awesome bracelet. We also played outside with the lightning bugs.

VBS

We did our own VBS at schools today and it was really fun; I love all the kids! We went to Pastor Valario’s church service, but it was raining really hard so there was only one other person there. There was one thunder that rolled on for a really long time. After hanging out at the church for a while, we rode back to our hostiles in the back of the pickup truck with a tarp over it! It was quite fun and scary at the same time.

Construction

Today we did construction and it was actually really fun. We raked dirt, shoveled concrete, and tried coffee beans (I didn’t like them very much though). This was all before lunch, and then afterwards we joined the VBS team at a school.

Antigua>Piquip, Mayan Ruins

Had french toast for breakfast and it was like deep fried french toast and it was the best thing ever! Then we started driving to Piquip and bus rides are always a joy! 2 hours later we stopped at some Mayan Ruins and ate lunch. There was a big hole toilet thing and Rob was like, “Make your mark at the Mayan Temples and poop!” It was so much fun! 2 more hours later we were in Piquip or somewhere around there and we finally got to see some kids! All the girls are in one hostile and we were making sandwiches and we stayed up laughing so hard! We though it was late like 10:00, but it was only 8:30!
