On our way out of Lake Powell, we stopped at the Glen Canyon Dam and took a tour out on the dam and in the power plant. (I didn’t know we were stopping there and was really confused for a while as to why Momma and Daddy kept saying a bad word to each other). Air conditioning has become my best friend on this trip. In Zion, Aunt Robin is staying in a hotel, so I get the couch bed and don’t have to take it apart every morning for breakfast.
Boating
We rented a boat to go out on the lake. I had to go in a tube with Momma because I was too light and would get flipped over too easily. I even got to drive the boat for a bit!
Grand Canyon>Lake Powell
We got up at 4 am to watch the sunrise. After going back to sleep for about 6 hours, we hiked down into the Grand Canyon a little bit. Then we drove to Lake Powell. After we parked there was a storm with lots of dust, rain, and wind.
Helicopter Ride
We went on a helicopter ride over the Grand Canyon! Later, while we were waiting on our lunch we went to a general store where I bought a mini cactus that looked like it had a mohawk and named it Calvin Jr. Even though it was raining, we went to see the sunset, but it wasn’t very good because of the dark clouds. Then we saw a little show where a ranger was dressed as Captain John and he told us his stories.
Four Corners>Grand Canyon
We stopped at Four Corners before making it to the Grand Canyon. At our campground we saw a HUGE elk on M (for moose) street. Daddy and I tried to find it again after dinner, but only found its big hooveprints.
Monument>Mesa Verde
We started on our way to Grand Canyon to our first pit stop, Mesa Verde. Aunt Robin is with us, but she’s driving her own car behind us most of the time.
Great Barrier Reef
It was Tori’s birthday and her special present was to go snorkeling in the Great Barrier Reef! We had to go on a 2 hour boat ride to get out to where we could get into the water. We spotted a whale on the way and named him Wally! He was showing off his tail flippers mostly, so we didn’t see his head but we believe he was pretty young because of the size of the flippers. The Great Barrier Reef was FREEZING! I had to come back to the ship early because I felt like I could get frostbite and the flippers were giving me cramps. I also didn’t want to get kicked in the face with flippers any more.
When we got back to the hotel, apparently some girls had “paranormal” activity and they thought some Australian boy stalkers or ghosts had broken into their room and taken their keys. And some people’s belongings ended up in different rooms and their suitcases were unlocked although they had locked them. There are perfectly good explanations for all of that; the maids, themselves, rumors, and seeing things because they are tired. Honestly, I think they were making mountains out of mole hills.
